GENERAL OVERVIEW

As Apple is about to launch its new iPhones here is all the rumours and the leaks by famous apple leaker Jon Prosser, Mark Gurman and others before the official announcement from Apple.



This year Apple is going to launch four models, this all models of the iPhone will continue to have notch as it has started from its iPhone X in the year 2017. The new iPhone models will be featuring in  three display sizes i.e. 5.4” (iPhone 12), 6.7” (iPhone 12 Pro Max) and two models with 6.1” (iPhone 12 Max & iPhone 12 Pro). 




DISPLAY 


6.7” model and 6.1”model of the iPhone will be higher end mobile phones that will be launching this year. All iPhones that are going to launch this year will be having OLED display technology with 120 Hz. refresh rate. And according to the leaks apple can name that 120 Hz. “ProMotion” refresh rate.

 

Apple is testing its OLED display technology since past few years from the Chinese supplier BOE Display, which makes LCD’s for the Apple’s Ipads and Macbooks. Apple is using Samsung OLED display in recent released iPhones, and is expected to continue doing so.

DISPLAY

5.4” iPhone 12:- OLED display from Samsung display,  2340*1080 resolution  475 PPI.

 6.1” iPhone 12 Max:- OLED display from BOE/LG display , 2532*1170 resolution 460 PPI

 6.1” iPhone 12 Pro:- OLED display from Samsung display with “ProMotion” technology 2532*1170 resolution and 460 PPI

 6.7” iPhone 12 Pro Max:-  OLED display from Samsung display with XDR and ProMotion technology, 2778*1284 resolution  and 458 PPI.


NAMING


Apple’s naming pattern has always been confusing ever since the launch of the iPhone 8. Apple also skipped iPhone 9 after the launch of iPhone 8. It became clearer from the launch of iPhone 11 as iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max.


 If the apple follows the lower end naming pattern as iPhone 11, this year Apple can name its models as iPhone 12, 12 Max, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max.


CAMERA


PhoneArena has posted concept illustrations showing an iPhone with four camera lenses on the rear. It does fit the square housing neatly. (The flash is placed in the centre.)It now appears more likely that the fourth sensor will be LiDAR, like on the new iPad Pro, than a fourth camera lens.

There is also talk of a big-zoom periscope lens, but that's not expected to appear until 2022.

There have also been predictions of a quad camera on the iPhone 12 Pro Max. That would mean a triple lens camera as with the iPhone 11 Pro, plus a ToF sensor or a Lidar sensor as in the 2020 iPad Pro. However, the general consensus is for there to be a triple camera again but yes, with a new sensor. As well as portrait mode, the new sensor will also help with ARKit apps.


What is LIDAR and why is it in the new Apple iPad?

We also expect to see more improvements to Night Mode and it’s predicated that Apple might be adding a 3D-sensing laser array to make Portrait mode even better. For the front camera, it’s been reported that Face ID will have a wider field of view.


BATTERY


In past launches Apple iPhones have always gained increase in the battery. Apple engineers are currently working on custom battery that will be 50 percent smaller and more efficient than previous generation.

 

This year Apple iPhone models could come with three different battery capacities for different models. The three capacities include 2,227 mAh (for 5.4” model), 2,775 mAh (for 6.1” model) and 3,687 mAh (for 6.7” model). This battery information are not accurate but are listed as seen from previous years.


COLOURS


According to rumours by many Apple leakers this year atleast one of the Apple iPhone 12 model can come with new navy blue finish.

 


Apple introduced a new midnight green colour with the iPhone 11 Pro last year. The plain iPhone 12 will follow the 11 in the main, but Apple will tweak the offering depending on which colours were most popular.  So this year Apple will come up with new colour in its top end variant i.e. Apple iPhone 12 Pro with navy blue colour.

A14 CHIPSET

According to rumours TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) will manufacture the A14 bionic chipset for iPhone 12 which will be 5nm in size. This A14 chip will focus on speeding up of artificial intelligence and AR tasks.


 

RAM

According to analyst Blayne Curtis, iPhone 12 Pro will be featuring 6GB RAM, and the other models will be having 4GB RAM.
